"Write this in english" on Duolingo

I may be a knub, but when I say: “Click [button text]” when Duolingo presents the “write this in english” form of questions, the buttons do not light up and appear in my constucted sentence. If I click them it works and other questions let me translate via lipsurf soley as well as advancing the page. But I want to speak it into existence as I code on another computer. I have the subscription above “plus” so I think I have everything I need.

Can anyone pass along their tips?

My hardwired mic input is at 100% and I’m using Google Chrome Version 111.0.5563.146 (Official Build) (64-bit).

The “continue” button responds when I say it causing the page to advance but I still can’t “speak” the english word buttons on the “Write this in english” pages. They are very common in Duolingo.
